Topics to be discussed will include:

  • The economic advantages of efficient water wells
  • The components of water wells, (casing screens, pumps) and definition of basic water well terminology
  • Basic water well hydraulics
  • Iron Bacterial Problems
  • Summary outline of the mineral, biological and physical reasons for well blockage
  • Biofouling of wells
  • Understanding problems of wells
  • How physical well blockage can occur: drilling fluids, fines migration and sand-pumping
  • Sources of blockage from drilling mud
  • Chemical Remediation methods
  • Well Rehabilitation Equipment
  • Necessary steps for effective rehabilitation
  • Outline of principal mechanical techniques available for well rehabilitation
  • Swab and bail, blasting, wire brushing etc.

About the Instructor:
Neil Mansuy, M.Sc., has more than 30 years of extensive, worldwide well rehabilitation experience holding a M.Sc. Degree from the University of Regina, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, specializing in iron-related bacteria and causes of well plugging. He has recommended solutions to thousands of wells, aquifers and water systems with lost capacity and water quality problems including “unsafe” bacterial results. Neil is Vice President of Technical Services for Subsurface Technologies Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri and works as a well rehabilitation specialist for STI and its related companies.
